The Shape of the World
The World of Reth
Reth is the name of both the world and the realm - a living world warmed by the stars and governed, in the settled lands, by the Council of Reth. Its regions are not mere geography but the echoes of something older: where the elements were divided and the domains took shape, the land itself came to remember what it once held.
Alorath and Eloreth
At the heart of many faiths stand two names: Alorath, the Light Dragon of Ishaeal, and Eloreth, the Shadow Dragon of Ishaeel. Public temple teaching treats them as the great poles of light and darkness, hope and temptation, truth and ambition. Different orders disagree on how literal the oldest stories should be, but all agree their opposition shapes how Reth understands holiness, shadow, and choice.
The Elder Dragons & the Planes
The gods of Reth are remembered as Elder Dragons or dragon-aspected sovereigns, depending on the temple tradition. Each is bound to a plane and domain: forest, mountain, sea, sky, flame, city, ruin, magic, and more. Their images appear as dragons, mortals, omens, and elemental signs, and no public creed fully settles which form is the truest.
Sacred Sites and Shadowed Places
Two kinds of sacred place appear again and again in public lore: springs of renewal where healing and fertility gather, and shadowed places where old grief, temptation, or dangerous magic lingers. Their origins are debated by temples and guarded by local tradition. Most people know only this: such sites can bless a kingdom, poison a road, or turn a forgotten ruin into the center of history.
The Council of Reth
Born from arbitration councils and trade alliances, the Council of Reth was established at the Great Summit of 3700 SR to govern the settled realms by consensus rather than conquest. Its legitimacy is bound to the memory of that summit and the peace it brought. Many peoples send their voices to it; some have withdrawn to keep their own ways.
