Lore & Background

Metsä - The Forest Court

Metsä is among the oldest and most prestigious Druthal Court traditions.

Its history is tied to the deep forests of Reth, the resonance of Thüosh, old-growth sovereignty, sacred groves, forest roads, and the long relationship between Druthal and the Aldaecir.

The ancient Forest Court understood itself as guardian of memory within the living world.

Metsä Druthal maintain that a forest is not merely timber, hunting ground, or wilderness between settlements. It is a layered history of:

paths

springs

roots

graves

migration

treaty boundaries

sacred clearings

old violence

old sanctuary

Their Court culture therefore prizes stewardship over possession.

A grove under Metsä protection is not necessarily "owned" by the Court.

It is something the Court has accepted responsibility for.

Relationship with the Aldaecir

Metsä Druthal and Aldaecir have stood beside one another for generations, but their philosophies are distinct.

The Druthal speak of:

stewardship

memory

Court law

protected boundaries

inherited obligation

The Aldaecir speak of the forest as living kin.

This creates an old and usually productive tension.

A Metsä elder may say:

"We have kept this grove for six generations."

An Aldaecir Warden may answer:

"Then you have been its guest for six generations."

Both may still fight side by side to defend it.

Modern Metsä Identity

Modern Metsä Druthal often see themselves as keepers of some of the oldest surviving Court practices.

Other Courts sometimes admire this.

Others occasionally find them overly confident that age equals wisdom.

Metsä's strongest virtue is memory.

Its greatest danger is confusing oldest with best.
